Category Training Courses (In lieu of on-the-job-training)

Forty hours of category on-the-job training (OJT) is required if it is available to you. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) allows exemption from OTJ in cases where it would not be available to you including: you do not work for an applicator business; you are currently unemployed; you are starting a new business; or you do not have a qualified trainer available.

When OTJ training is not available to you, the NJDEP allows category training courses in lieu of OTJ training. NJDEP-approved training is currently available for categories 3A, 3B, 7A, 7B, and 8D for applicators only (not operators). 3A, 3B, and 7A courses are 6 hours each while the 7B is a 12-hour course (2 days). For other categories, an exemption from OTJ may be available; contact the NJDEP at 609-984-6507 for further information.
